Zendesk AI agents
AI agents built into Zendesk that answer customers on messaging, email and voice and take actions in connected systems. By Zendesk.
Too few public reviews to rate. We found 13 reviews about the AI itself; a share needs 10 that mention the point. The profile below sets out what Zendesk publishes.
What reviewers say
13 public reviews about the AI, from Zendesk Community, Trustpilot. Each share counts the reviews that mention the point.
Read with care. Most of these opinions are posts in the vendor's own community forum, where people mostly come to report problems, so they lean negative. Review platforms that list this product could not be read, or marked their reviews as incentivized.

“That combination (trigger gate + coordinated notifications + silent handoff) has been running reliably in production for weeks.”
“Setting up AI Agents-Essential for email was trivial and works well. Reading the documentation for email for AI Agents-Professional makes my head spin with the level of complexity”
“It does throw some weird article suggestions now and then, especially if the question is a bit vague. But honestly, it's been decent overall.”
Complaints
“I made a ticket with Zendesk and apparently the length of the email responses is a known bug they are working on but with no ETA for a fix! So, for us, Email is unusable until it’s fixed.”
“As a result, the ticket may remain in the human agent's queue without an effective SLA constraint, even though the customer is waiting for a human response.”
“Migrating from the legacy bot's Flow Builder to the new Advanced AI agent (Messaging / Web Widget), you'll notice escalation to a human has no configurable fields at all”
“The best result I got so far was to have an instruction to give concise answers (or 1-2 paragraphs) but it doesn’t always work.”
“The issue I am seeing is that the generative reply aspect we cannot turn off. So my Ai agent when I place it in production replies to all emails.”
“It has certainly been a learning process to get this to work as needed!”
What it does
Zendesk AI agents are AI-powered bots that talk with customers on messaging, email (including API and web form) and voice, and can take actions in authorized systems1. They answer from the brand's knowledge base and web crawlers, and can follow generative procedures2. The older "AI agents - Essential" version is legacy and stops being available on December 10, 20261.

Handing a conversation to a person
As Zendesk documents it. Reviewers' experience of handoffs is in the shares above.
Each agent has an escalation reply that it sends when passing a conversation to a human agent; on messaging it can offer a "talk to a human" option and collect name, email and reason for contact, and on email it tells the customer someone will follow up2. On voice, the AI agent posts the call transcript and a summary to the ticket, and the human agent receives the call in Agent Workspace with a full transcript, a concise summary and a detected intent; if nobody is available the caller can leave a voicemail4.
Controls
Safety and review features, as Zendesk documents them.
- Automated test runs before launch that report scenarios passed or failed, with persona and conversation details2
- Generative procedures that can be previewed and edited before approval2
- Channel activation is a separate step after setup; each agent works on one channel type2
- Language, tone and system replies set during setup2
- Routing on voice escalations uses ticket fields the AI agent updated, such as group or skills4

Not found in public sources
We looked for these and could not find them.
- A list of topics the agent must not answer as a dedicated setting
- Versioning or approval of changes to a live agent
Billing
Per resolutionIncluded in every Suite and Support plan with an allowance of 5 automated resolutions per agent per month (Support Team, Suite Team) or 10 (Suite Professional); more cost $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay as you go5.
What counts: Since May 18, 2026 conversations fall into three tiers. Only a verified resolution, where an LLM review decides the request was satisfactorily resolved after the conversation ends, is counted; assisted escalations and contained resolutions do not count against the allowance6.
The bill grows as the AI succeeds. Read how the vendor defines “resolved”, and whether a customer who comes back later still counts.
